V.A - The Skinhead Generation (54,46 was my number)

Bueno este disco fue hecho por "Castle music" la cual recopiló los temas más conocidos de la escena Skinhead en este sencillo disco de 18 temas.

Disco que proviene de una serie de documentales emitidos a finales de los noventa por el canal británico ITV y centrados en las subculturas juveniles de las Islas.

El concepto original y parte de los guiones son de Eddie Piller (un célebre face, DJ y disquero inglés), y el título de la serie era "The Sound Of Underground London", de ahí lo de "SOUL"

Paso a presentar una banda de santiago que tuve la suerte de ver en vivo a findes del año pasado, me comunique con ellos y me enviaron dos temas para hacer la presentacion en diferentes blogs, espero lo disfruten y apoyemos a las pocas bandas nacionales que promueven este estilo en nuestro pais y a la vez sentirnos orgullosos de la calidad de sonido que nos entregan, un saludos a todos aqui y les deseo buen inicio 2010.

La banda Santiago Downbeat nace en Abril del año 2008, con el objetivo de trabajar e interpretar los ritmos tradicionales de Jamaica, como el Ska, el Rocksteady y el Reggae a través del Jazz y el R&B de los años 50’s; así mezclando el carácter bailable y de fiesta con el juego de la improvisación propia del Jazz.
El repertorio varía entre standards de jazz clásicos y temas insignes del ska jamaicano,todos arreglados y adaptados por el trompetista Cristián Cerpa, quien encabeza esta agrupación conformada por 11 músicos en escena.

Cuarenta años después de su lanzamiento original, 'Tighten Up Volume 2' finalmente recibe el tratamiento digno de colección tan histórico. Complementando la docena original de pistas de la version 1969 estan sus respectivos lados 'B', junto con otras 24 pistas, publicados por Trojan desde Enero a Agosto del '69 Periodo durante el cual los LP's originalmente fueron singles. En total, estas 48 gloriosas Pistas representan las mejores publicaciones durante lo que ha demostrado ser un año decisivo en la historia de la música Reggae.

Larga vida al rey del hammond

Nacido en Jamaica en 1948 y tecladista desde los 4 años de edad, Jackie Mittoo fue una de las figuras principales en aquellos primeros años del ska. Es que, ni más ni menos, fue uno de los miembros originales de los Skatalites, acaso la más renombrada banda dentro del género que ha logrado persistir el correr de los años. Además, Mittoo ocupaba un rol fundamental: aparte de ser el tecladista estable del sello Studio One (propiedad de Clement “Coxsone” Dodd), también era productor del estudio, un estudioso de los sonidos y su incorporación a los estilos de Jamaica y un fuerte impulsor para las figuras novatas que iban incorporándose al staff de Dodd. También con sus radicaciones en Inglaterra y Canadá logró divulgar la música de su país en tierras lejanas.
Con un estilo totalmente propio, a pesar de las fuertes influencias de organistas de mod jazz como Jimmy Smith o artistas de soul instrumental como Booker T and the MGs, Mittoo logró pasearse con resultados maravillosos en cuanto género jamaiquino estuvo a su alcance. Logró dotar de profundidad una simple canción ska, hizo que muchos cantantes de rocksteady sonaran aún mejor con esos colchones de teclas de fondo, no tuvo miedo de experimentar en sus composiciones y hasta se aventuró en un costado dub, sobre todo en su proyecto Sound Dimension, lo más parecido al reggae psicodélico que haya existido en algún momento.
Jackie Mittoo dejó el mundo de los mortales en 1990, víctima de un cáncer cuando contaba con tan sólo 42 años de edad, dejando en suspenso lo que podría haber sido una carrera mucho más extensa y fructífera aún. Pero sus grabaciones personales, sus aportaciones a otros artistas y el impulso estilístico que le dio a la música jamaiquina en general serán valorados para toda la posteridad. El “Keyboard king at Studio One” dejó un legado imposible de borrar para toda una cultura musical de un país entero. Y también tuvo su grado de responsabilidad en su proyección mundial. ¿Acaso eso es poca cosa?
